Founded in London in 1790 by the Scot George Sandeman, who traded both port and sherry. Its caped figure in a Portuguese student's cape and a Spanish hat, known as "The Don", became one of the first wine brand logos in 1928. Sandeman is now owned by the Portuguese wine group Sogrape.
