Privacy policy
Last updated 28 October 2026
We collect as little personal data as possible, and we follow the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for everyone, wherever they live.
What we collect
- Your email address and password (stored securely, never visible to anyone).
- Your username, and optionally a profile photo, your country, your profession, where you work and a short bio.
- If you sign in with Google: the name and email address of that Google account.
- What you do on Barpedia: your proposals, ratings, lists, collection and tasting journal.
Reading Barpedia without an account collects no personal data beyond what any website needs to work, plus the advertising cookies described below if you accept them.
What is public and what is private
- Public: your username, profile photo, country, profession, workplace, bio, the date you joined, and your published contributions.
- Public only if you choose so in your account: your collection, your favourites and your recent activity.
- Private: your email, your other lists, your tasting journal and your individual ratings (only averages are shown).
- Your proposals are visible only to you and to the people who review them.
Why we use it
To let you sign in, to show who contributed what, to review proposals, to keep the community safe, and to answer you if you contact us. We don't sell your data, and we never give your account details to advertisers.
Advertising
Barpedia is free, and ads help pay for it. The ads are shown by Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to show ads, to measure them and to prevent fraud. With your permission, they may also use them to show ads based on your visits to Barpedia and other websites.
- In the European Union, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, a message from Google asks for your choice before any advertising cookies are used. You can change your choice at any time from the privacy link it shows on the page.
- You can turn off personalised ads for your Google account in Google's ad settings.
- How Google uses this information: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Who helps us run Barpedia
- Supabase: database, sign-in and photo storage, on servers in the European Union.
- Vercel: hosting of the website.
- Google: sign-in with Google (only if you choose it), and ads (Google AdSense).
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time in Account settings. Your profile, email, photo, lists, notes and ratings are deleted. Your published contributions stay, shown as made by a former user.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, export or delete your data, or object to how we use it, by writing to barpedia2026@gmail.com. You can also complain to a data protection authority (in Portugal, the CNPD).
Who is responsible
The name and address of the person or company responsible for Barpedia will be added here before launch.
